A consumate master of magic, the wizard is the most intelligent of all the classes. Their intelligence does not come at the cost of diversity as they excel in all forms of instant damage magic. Although a wizard can be difficult to work with due to his superior nature, the rewards can be great given that all wizards begin with a 4% (up to 12% with class-enhancing skills) bonus to all direct damage magic. -- In game description

Strategy and Builds[]

Since the Wizard benefits most from direct damage magic, it is important to level the Magic and Recovery stats and equip a Staff for increased gem draw speed (and later, damage). For Magic, distribute stat points evenly between Int and Cnc for higher gem damage and hit rate. For Recovery, determine which color(s) of gems you want to use, then distribute stat points exclusively in Pre or Mre. Top builds rely on double casting with at least 400 in Int, Cnc, and one of the recovery stats, but you can never have enough Int to maximize damage.

The Melee and Defense stats are less important in top builds, but if you do level them, distribute stat points heavily in Str for Melee and Cnt for Defense. When leveling to cap, you may need to rely on Staff damage or use a non-staff crushing weapon instead, and may find that evenly distributing Defense stat points between Agi, Cnt, and Dur improves survivability.

Your gem pouch should include the highest level Flare Up or Flame Call aura you can use to maximize gem damage, and Red and Green Direct Damage gems for Mana users or Black Direct Damage gems for Energy users. Both single cast and recastable gems are useful, and as you level the Gem Handling and Wizardry skills, you can improve your pouch contents more easily with duplicates of the higher tier gems. At level 40 your gem damage will drastically increase because you gain access to the Deft Recovery skill, which improves draw speed when you have fewer gems in play.

Solo Play[]

Wizards benefit from having a damage pouch, a healing pouch, and an empty pouch (for escaping combat) since they have no strong source of healing from pets or Regeneration until gaining health from vampirism at higher levels. If you have a clan with the Incantation rune, equip it to randomly draw more gems at the start of combat. The Wizard pairs well with the Jeweler as a secondary class because the Jeweler's Class Ability fills your gem slots immediately for a large damage spike.

Group Play[]

For group PvP, your gem pouch should have AoE gems instead of single target gems. Although their Mana and Energy costs are higher and their damage is lower, hitting all three targets in a PvP match will outpace single target damage in the match and allow you to partially bypass taunts.
